Apostle of VOLI Digital 2024 Circulation - 1 copies Credit - Purchase In the heart of Petrovac, there once stood a VOLI store, its vibrant sign a distinctive landmark—recently, this iconic sign was removed. The central figure of the work is Gleb, an ordinary townsman whose emotional connection to this place transforms him into an “apostle” of an era of change. Gleb, like me, was moved by the loss of this beautiful sign, and I decided he must be immortalized in the painting, rendered in an iconographic style. My primary aim was to depict both the old VOLI store and the new one (located nearby) on a single plane, highlighting the continuity of time. To achieve this, I used a technique of broken perspective. The central idea lies in complete harmony with a long-established system: no matter how much the main character may stand out, his reflection in the mirror reveals him to be just another member of the consumer society. People came to the store seeking abundance and possibilities, both in the times of the old shop and today’s modern one. |
Internet, a Vivid Association Digital 2024 Circulation - 1 copies Credit - Purchase This still life, filled with an abundance of fruits and berries, symbolizes the artificial, bright, and happy side of life portrayed in the digital world. This world is inhabited by numerous small local residents (little blue people) who live directly on the surface of the internet: some are content with their unremarkable lives; for others, it's not enough, and they strive to climb higher on this mountain of bright fruits; some are suffering (in the foreground, alongside a shark fin), but their problems go unnoticed against the backdrop of the giant, sweet mountain of a better life on the internet. Everyone is absorbed in their own activities in this world. In the background, a large monster will eventually devour the pile of ripe fruits and vegetables. To its right, the spirit of time watches all the local residents and laughs out loud. It laughs because it knows how much time people waste in their attempts to follow the trends of the moment. The "Big Eye-Nerve of the Internet," stretching out from the pile of fruits, symbolizes parasitism, disease, or addiction. We think that we are the ones exploring the internet, but in reality — it is the internet that is studying us! And no one knows where this rapidly developing virtual world might lead: to a leap forward in progress or to total doom. In the background, behind the still life, you can see a hanging painting as a tribute to my favorite sour fish. |
